Please join us on August 26th from 6–8pm at The Clemente, 107 Suffolk St, Studio 309 for Beginner’s Mind, Telephone Telephone #49, an experimental reading-group-as-exhibition presented in collaboration with Darling Green.
What characterizes children’s experience of art? How can children teach us to become more present with works of art and more open to difference? What tools can help us learn to listen more carefully, open our eyes, and change our consciousness?
Beginner’s Mind is the first of several experimental conversations emerging out of Darling Green’s abecedary; ...a classroom show.* project and DOT’s explorations of formats for gathering that connect people with something larger than themselves.
The event is inspired by On Kawara’s itinerant installation Pure Consciousness. We’ve assembled a package of readings and references including excerpts from Walter Benjamin’s One-Way Street and Michael Pollan’s How to Change Your Mind, Ana Hjorn Guttu’s video How To Become a Non-Artist, and as well as interviews with artists Rebecca Raue and Michael Crowe about their ongoing projects with children.
