Workshop curated by Prem Krishnamurthy with Åbäke
How can the act of presenting activate connections between ideas, objects, and people? The verb “to present” is often understood to mean “to offer to view; to bring something before the public”. What if instead we were to think of “presenting” as a means of “making things present”?
The exhibition Deep Publishing by Åbäke offers a test case for considering these questions and more. Facilitated by Prem Krishnamurthy—who also served as a curatorial “companion” to the exhibition—this multimodal workshop uses the show as a starting point for a participatory reflection on individual and collective presence. In Spring 2023, Krishnamurthy embarked on a teaching tour across the USA focused on collaborative methodologies for art and design as part of a project called “Department of Transformation”. At MACRO, he prototyped those approaches using writing, music, movement, and conversation to open up polyvocal ways of working in and on the world.
